Survivor Leadership Associate

The Network/La Red is a survivor-led, social justice organization with over 30 years’ experience working to end partner abuse in lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, kink, polyamorous, and queer communities. Our organization and staff are recognized locally and nationally as experts in providing survivor-centered services and as thought leaders on the issue of LGBTQ+ partner abuse. We blend our history and commitment to being survivor-led, our analysis of LGBTQ+ partner abuse, and our commitment to being an anti-oppressive organization to create a unique framework that is the foundation of our survivor-centered approach.

We believe that survivors are the experts on their own lives and are therefore committed to centering survivor voices and leadership in all aspects of our work. While we offer services for survivors we also organize and educate about partner abuse to create the change we believe is possible for our communities.

Role Title: Survivor Leadership Associate Location: This position works between two offices and out in community in the Greater Boston Area of Massachusetts. While this position currently works remote, this is an in-office position.
Hours: 40 hours/week; varied schedule with some evenings and weekends required
Supervised by: Education Manager
Supervises: Volunteers and interns involved with community projects

The Survivor Leadership Associate fosters survivor leadership in our communities using community organizing strategies and supports survivors in their work to educate their communities about partner abuse. This position plans and implements survivor-centered projects that develop the skills necessary for survivors to facilitate conversations about partner abuse as a community issue and its connection to oppression. Working with survivors in community also requires providing emotional support, so the Survivor Leadership Associate collaborates regularly with the direct service (DS) team to build those skills and receive ongoing support. Additionally, the Survivor Leadership Associate supervises any volunteers involved in TNLR’s survivor-leadership efforts.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement survivor-led/centered community mobilization strategies and projects.
  • Collaborate with volunteers, staff, and survivors to plan, manage, and execute our annual celebration of survival and resistance event, Wild Tongues.
  • Work with a designated Direct Service (DS) staff to plan, coordinate, and execute our Survivor Leadership Series (SLS): a multi-week, train-the-trainers which will provide storytelling, training, facilitation, and public speaking skills to survivors.
  • Provide emotional support to SLS cohort as well as the skills needed to bring the issue of partner abuse into the community.
  • Support survivors who graduate SLS with planning and managing their own community event as part of the Community Conversations Series.
  • Review and adapt the Northwest Network’s Healthy Relationship Skills Class to create a survivor-centered Consensual Relationships Curriculum.
  • Collaborate with the social media Team to promote ongoing community mobilization projects on web and social media platforms.
  • Participate in program development and other organizational projects as appropriate
  • Contribute to organizational committees as appropriate.
  • Provide direct service support to survivors of LGBTQ+ partner abuse as necessary, including our crisis hotline.
  • Maintain files of program activities, provide program information and reports as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned/necessary.

Qualifications, Strengths, and Skills: We hire for life experience. People of color, trans people, survivors of partner abuse especially encouraged to apply. The following qualifications are for an ideal candidate, but we will consider all types of experience and will absolutely consider candidates who don’t meet all the qualifications. An ideal candidate will:

  • Be Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Have a minimum of 1 year of experience in at least 2 of the following areas: LGBTQ+ partner abuse; training/public speaking; organizing/community outreach; communications.
  • Be a “people person” – enjoy talking with people (in person and on the phone), have experience making and maintaining connections in community, and be able to represent the organization in professional and social settings.
  • Have excellent listening, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Be able to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities, including the stress of juggling daily tasks, ongoing projects, and crisis support of survivors as it comes up.
  • Have a passion for social change/social justice.
  • Be energetic and able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Be self-motivated with strong leadership skills
  • Be a quick thinker and able to exercise good judgement under pressure.

Compensation: Base salary at $52,000. While this position is not Bilingual required, a pay differential is offered to people who are fluent in English and Spanish with a salary of $54,080. TNLR offers a competitive benefits package, including:
